Updates

Please forgive the poor organisation and incomplete status of this page. I'm slowly shifting over from old manual updates to a more automated system. I've blabbed on it a little bit before on other bits of the site, so I won't go on at length. The upshot is some teething difficulties. One thing in particular I've realised now is that I only archived the updates that I had put in the RSS Feed, and so those are the only ones here. I'll work on retrieving the older ones soon, but for now I'm afraid this is it. Sorry!

DateTitleSummary
2010-12-18 Miss Mars S2E3 Hey guys! 'Tis the season for generosity. And as such, we're giving unto you a new Miss Mars chapter. Season 2 Episode 3 is now up on the forums, so go get reading. Miss Mars has been slow recently but we were happy to get three quality chapters out this year.
Also there's been a secret santa art event going on on the forum. It's too late for newcomers to join in this year, but everyone can pop their heads in and hopefully get a look at what everyone turns out when Christmas rolls around, and maybe put your name down to participate next year.
Have a Merry Christmas/good Festivus, or whatever else you may celebrate, and a Happy New Year.
2010-11-03 Miss Mars S2E2 Hey everyone, New Miss Mars Chapter! I hope you guys have been looking forwards to this, because it's one of my favourite chapters we've ever written. You can go and check it out in the Miss Mars forum.

I won't go on and on about the chapter- it should speak for itself. This is Season 2, Episode 2, "Once Upon a Time". Go read it and tell us what you think!

Also, it was Saburo X's birthday on Tuesday, so I hope you all wished him a happy birthday.

Until next time!

2010-10-30 Trick or Treat Hi! Long time no update! I've been busy lately, but I've still managed to get writing done, and finally here's something I can post, a short story called Trick or Treat. This one has two illustrations by Saburo X, and they're real corkers. So, let's celebrate Halloween with some curvy witches! Come and comment on the forum if you like the story!
2010-09-05 Between Good and Evil Chapter 2, New Challenge The second half of Between Good and Evil is now up in the library- go check it out. Just to avoid confusion, the entire story is up now. I was thinking of dividing chapter 2 into two seperate chapters, but I decided against it, so now the whole thing is available in the library. Get readin'!

Also, we've got a new challenge up in the forum. We actually had one last week too, but I didn't post about it on the main page. Interested writers are welcome to make a late submission on that one too.
2010-08-29 Between Good and Evil Chapter 1

Hey! It's been a while. I'll spare you all some of the blabber and simply say that I uploaded a new story to the Library. It's called Beyond Good and Evil. This is just the first chapter, there's another one to come- or possibly two. I'm not sure how to split the remaining two thirds of the story and might wind up posting them as one. If I do you'll find out next week.

In the mean time come check out the forum, where I might even post a new writing challenge, you never know. I can't make too many promises, but hopefully there will be more updates soon.

2010-02-19 Miss Mars Season 2 At long last, a new chapter of Miss Mars is available! Check it out on our forum.
We actually posted the chapter a few days ago, but me being the moron I am I forgot to update the RSS/mainsite. So, this is my belated update. Sorry I didn't say sooner. I've fallen out of the habit of updating the site and so it isn't second nature...
I'd waffle on about the chapter, but really I think I'd just be wasting your time; if you want to read it, go read it. You don't need me to tell you 101 things you're going to find out when you read it anyway. While you're on the forum, though, you might check out the Timeless Writing Challenge I put up a little while ago.
The site's update schedule is still on hiatus. Right now I have got stuff going on in University that is eating up all of my time, and while I can tend to the forum, I don't think I've got the time or energy needed to do weekly updates to the site. And I don't really like the idea of updating if it isn't weekly.
Anyway, go enjoy Miss Mars! It's been a long time coming.
2009-10-31 Ghost Story Halloween Special Happy Halloween!

'Tis the season to be creepy. In that spirit, I have put together a short update this week; a Ghost Story Halloween Special. It's a little story with some of the cast from Ghost Story. If you haven't read it (or only read the preview), hopefully it will be self explanatory. It also includes a rather awesome little illustration by Saburo X. Check it out! And also, look forwards to November!

Happy Halloween to you all!

2009-10-24 More Short Shorts

Hey! Another bitesize update this week. In fact I think this might be the shortest story in the library. The new story is "New Motherwell", a short one scene tale of future space colonization. Hopefully that will tide you guys over... I have a little something more in mind for next weekend, if I get the time to put it together. If so, look forwards to Halloween!

2009-10-11 From the Ashes!

Aaaand my internet is back. Finally. For those not in the know, I moved to my term-time flat a few weeks ago, and unfortunately we had no internet hooked up. This was why the site updates completely and utterly ceased for a while. Now I'm hooked up again!

I can't promise the update schedule will return completely all at once- I have a lot of University work to keep up with now and it's going to eat into my maintenance time, but I'll do my best.

As for this week, I have a super short story for you all about a girl(/mythical creature) named Phoebe. Go look it up in the library. It's short, but I think you will find it is sweet too.

Please check out the forums over the next few weeks. NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month, November) is coming up soon (duh, in November), and I would like to see if we couldn't put some stuff together on the site. But only if there's demand for it, soooo... Go on the forum if you're interested and give us a shout.

2009-08-22 Fräulein Chapter 4 More Fräulein, at last!

Sorry for last week's non-update. I may wind up rescheduling things, as I really didn't count on how busy my weekends would be after coming home. I have a couple of social commitments and wind up being out of town and net access on Sundays, which leaves me with little time to cover essentials, including site updates.

But anyway, now Chapter Four of Fräulein is online. The chapters are tending towards the longer now, so hopefully that'll make up for our uneven updates a little. Chapter Four sees the introduction of two more 'main cast' members who complete the story's band. Things start to pick up momentum from here, so look forward to future updates.

On another note, I'm very happy to report that Ghost Story has sold better than I expected! I'm still eager to hear what more people thought of the book, but as is I'm more than pleased with the revenue. Cup Noodles Galore! The book and PDF are still available at the linked site. All the feedback so far has been positive, so, who knows, maybe if you buy it you might just enjoy it!

2009-08-11 Ghost Story available now! Fräulein Chapter 2 and 3!

Grand Update! I know this is midweek, but I've been having a lot of technical issues recently... (not to mention being busy catching up on a year of missed social life) Now I've finally put up the stuff I wanted to put up on Sunday.

First we've got more Fräulein, Chapters 2 and 3 are now up. I actually got 2 up on Saturday night, but it was all on its lonesome and I couldn't get the update system to work properly. Now I've put up Chapter 3 as well. Chapter 2's on the short side, but Chapter 3's on the long side so... maybe it balances out? Anyway, there's some good reading there so check it out.

And now, something I've been waiting to do for a long time... Ghost Story. There's a preview up in the library, but Ghost Story itself is actually available as a book-book (in print!) or a PDF at Lulu.com. Yes, it costs actual cash moneys, I'm afraid, but for several years of effort put into M stories, I'd appreciate earning enough money out of it to buy a cup of noodles ^_^; Anyway, judge for yourself- if you like the preview, maybe you'll like the full thing! If you hate the preview, drop it like a ton of bricks!

Either way, opinions are always welcome on the forum. Tell me what you think of the preview, or heck, maybe even the full thing!

2009-07-26 Fräulein Sorry, another late update...

As promised last week, here is the first chapter of Fräulein, a story co-othered by Saburo X and myself. Fräulein is the story of a female Frankenstein and her adventures in investigation of her pregnancy. It's a sort of sister-story to Lady Vivienne (we had discussion of crossovers, but we really needed another monster girl to round out the trio). While the hook (pregnant monster girl wants to know why she is pregnant) the story goes to very different places and has a diverse and hopefully interesting cast.

Chapte 1 just starts with our two heroes, Francis and Ollie, so go check it out. Chapter 2 will be up next week with Adventures.

2009-07-18 Matrontron First Edition Heeey, just on time update... Woo.

I won't lie to you guys, I feel a bit bad about this week's update. It's the first 'chapter' of a story I finished a few weeks back. The story, Matrontron, is the longest thing I've written to date, at about 90,000 words. Unfortunately this makes it a royal pain in the ass to edit. Worse still, the story involves a lot of time travel, so there are a few bits and pieces of internal consistency that I need to look at. I have not had time to do this yet, but somehow I find myself posting chapter one. I think the writing still holds up, but I tell you all this because I might pull this "first edition" back and post a second edition in the future with more edits.

Why am I posting this? Simply put, I'm in a tight spot as far as updates go this week. I have, as I've previously indicated, run low on short stories to put up, but I still have a few super long ones. But there are sticking points with all of them which lead me to posting this. I hope you still enjoy it.

To make up for this, I'm going to post the first chapter of my first big non-M story up on the forum. If you like my humorous writing style and want to give it a spin without pregnant girls, go check out the first chapter of "Dread Pirate" on the forum.

Next week I hope to be able to post the first chapter of Fraulein by Saburo X, a sister-story to Lady Vivienne. It's a good one so look forward to it (fingers crossed)!

2009-07-12 The Sweet Tiller Ack, late again. But this time I totally have a reason.

This week's story is a little on the short side, buuut, it's a good one, if I do say so myself. The story is "The Sweet Tiller". It's an idea that I've had for literally years, but my previous attempts to put it into writing were unsuccessful. This time might be short, but it got the job done, aaand I might even write more about it at some point in the future. I held off on uploading it because Saburo X said he might illustrate the main character, and low and behold he did (and boy is it purty). But I had to put off updating until the horrible photoshop rendering machines had finished cranking the picture out, and so, here we are on Sunday. Oops.

Anyway, I'll talk more about the story on the forum, so if you enjoy it be sure to come and hear more about it, and hopefully give me some of your thoughts to boot.

2009-07-04 Just like the Wind... Just a little update this week I'm afraid; the Epilogue to Lady Vivienne. It's short, but I think readers will still get a big kick out of it.

Be sure to post feedback on the forum! So, until next time, Vivienne is Just like the Wind...

Still throwing around ideas for the Bad Idea Challenge, so check that out on the forums too. And if there's any BlazBlue fans on the forum I want to hear from you!

2009-06-27 Lady vivienne and the Bad Idea Challenge What's this? An update on time? Clearly we are living in a parallel Universe or something. But, I swear by the hairs on my evil goattee, I have in fact uploaded Lady Vivienne Chapter VII on time. Woo!

This is the last chapter of Vivienne, not counting the epilogue, so go on and read the final action! I hope it's as fun to read as it was to write. And maybe the ending will even have a surprise or two for you. Check it out and gimme your thoughts on the forum!

Speaking of the Forum, I'm trying out a little event right now- sort of like a Writing Challenge only more limited and hopefully still a lot of fun. It's the Bad Idea Challenge! You can check it out on the forum, but here's the general lowdown; I think that a good writer can make a good story from even a bad idea. But to put this to the test, I want everyone to come up with their best worst ideas for stories with pregnant girls in. Everyone suggest away, and then we'll put the results into a poll to decide which idea is the worst after all. Then I'll do my best to write the very worst idea to the best of my ability, and we can see whether it can really be turned good or not.

Aaaand if anyone is interested we might run it as a regular old challenge where everyone can pitch in to try and write bad ideas. So, come and check it out.

'Til next week!

2009-06-20 Lady Vivienne, Chapter VI Oops, a little bit on the late side... but still on the right weekend at least! Here we are, Lady Vivienne Chapter VI. With this, the story is nearing its climax! There's a lot of action, and finally the real reason Vivienne's pregnant! I hope you all enjoy

If you've got time, I put a poll up in the General Discussion section of the forum about book stuff. I'm trying to gather some information, so I'd appreciate it if people took the time to vote. Thank you, and good day.

2009-06-13 Double Update Aaand we're back. Eagle eyed readers may have noticed that we didn't update last week. Although I'm genuinely not sure how many such viewers actually exist, since only one person commented on the fact to me. But, hey, c'est la vie I guess...

Anyway, between one thing and another I didn't update last week. And rather than putting in a late update on Monday or Wednesday, I decided it'd be better just to do a double header today. So, this week, not only do we have Chapter V of Lady Vivienne, but also a new short story of around the same length, called 'Logistics'.

Logistics is short, and full of huge fun. It as an idea I had during the week after watching some Lupin III, and managed to squeeze out time to write it between other projects. It's about thievery and pregnancy, and I hope it'll amuse.

Vivienne, on the other hand, is now into the action, and my favourite part of the story. Last two main characters show up (barring the 'final boss'), and I quite like them, even though neither of them is pregnant (*gasp*) or even female (:O). If you've been following the story, I think you'll really enjoy the latest developments.

Please check out the forums and comment on stories you like there. I'll endeavour to keep the update schedule going again now, but when I get no response or activity for a while I get a strong "Why do I even bother?" feeling.

2009-05-31 Lady Vivienne, Chapter 4 Drat, looks like I'm back to late updates again. And worse still, after uploading the story today I completely forgot to put this update up... Well, there's story now, and I think it's starting to get good, if I do say so myself. Go check out Chapter 4 of Lady Vivienne if you've been following it

Yesterday was sorta hectic in that we've had a complete spambot invasion of the forum. Keeping on top of them is tricky at best. I've run some updates on the forum, turned on user account activation and ramped up the letter scrambling test on registration, but it hasn't been 100% effective. I'm going to continue looking into solutions, and in the mean time we might have to just ignore the odd bot that gets past until I get around to deleting it. Sorry! Bear with me.

Seems like the last art challenge was a bit of a bust, but hopefully the next one will be more fun. No guarantees but I'll try and needle Saburo into dreaming one up before the week's out.

See you again next week, when hopefully I'll be on time!

2009-05-23 Lady Vivienne, Chapter 3 Another week, another chapter of Lady Vivienne. And actually on time! Although this notification is a little on the late side, I uploaded the chapter earlier.

This week's chapter introduces the story's other main character, Bridgette. I won't spoil things too much, but hopefully she'll make it a more interesting read for some of you. Check the story out in the library.

With any luck, a new art challenge will be announced on Monday. Over and out!

2009-05-16 Henshin! A break from Lady Vivienne this week... I was meaning to post this story last week, but I realised that I never actually put the last few words down, and so rushed Vivienne up instead. And then procrastinated all week until today, Sunday, to finally polish off this little story and put it online

This week's story is "Henshin!" a Super Sentai / Power Rangers Parody. Some of you might remember I posted a writing challenge about this- well, now you can read the rest of the story. More Sentai parody, hopefully with enough all round humour (and pregnancy) to keep everyone else interested.

Sorry for the late update again, will try harder next week. Look forward to more Vivienne then!

2009-05-10 Belated Vivienne Hey, sorry for the late update guys. I could make excuses but they wouldn't change the facts. I'll try to keep things on better schedule next week.

This week's update is the second chapter of Lady Vivienne, which starts to explore more of the Dracula style vampire mythos. No new major characters this chapter, but the next one will. I have another shorter story I meant to post this week, but I forgot how much polishing it needed and wasn't able to get it done on time. Hopefully Vivienne will prove as enjoyable.

Also, sorry there's no big Mother's Day affair- I know it's a holiday held in a special place by our community, but for me it's always been a weird one. In the UK Mother's Day happens at a completely different time of year. Japan has Mother's Day at the same time as the US, but, well, it's not the sort of holiday you pay much attention to when you're a thousand miles away from your mother. Maybe next year we can have a grand celebration!

Oh, and one last thing. Saburo's running a big art challenge on the forums, on the theme of Monster Girls. Since the writing challenges are currently on hiatus, if you feel like writing for this one you can feel free. There's still a week left, so if you're interested head over to the forum and get drawing/writing!

2009-05-01 Lady Vivienne Hey! An update on time again, for once.

This week's update is the first chapter of Lady Vivienne, a story about the misadventures of an unfortunately pregnant vampire. The individual chapters are a little on the short side, but the story itself is quite long when you add it up. I'm not 100% sure whether new chapters will be weekly or biweekly, it depends on whether I can get the shorter stories to post on off weeks or not. Regardless, there'll be a new story up next week as usual.

I should also announce here that I've discontinued the writing challenges due to low participation. I wanted to keep them going, but I don't like the idea of them continuing in a rather pathetic format. I might pick them back up again when everyone has more time to spare in Summer or whatever, but for now, they're off.

Art Challenges, however, should still be on, look forward to the next one on Monday.

2009-04-25 Pirates versus Ninja: Epilogue, and Rapunzel! Sorry I'm a little late this weekend, umm, you see, Daylight's Savings and... cumulative effect... spinning... rotational force... Japan loses a whole day! Would you fancy that! Yeah, I didn't believe it before I came here either.

But setting that aside, we have updates! The epilogue to Pirates versus Ninja, which is absolutely the last word in the story, and on top of that, the end of Rapunzel. Two stories for the er, price of one. The price being free. Unless you want to donate :D

I should also point out that things are getting crazy awesome on the Art Challenge Forum, since apparently "pirate" is the universal language for "awesome art".

So, read and be merry!

2009-04-18 Rapunzel, Part 2 Ack! I'm a day late! Sorry! I've been off kilter this week since I started back at University after a long spring break (Japanese term system is weird). I apologise for the belated update. This week is the second part of Rapunzel, wherein the plot thickens. Or at least fattens. I don't think I placed the chapter divide very well this time, but I plan to post the end of Rapunzel next week along with the Epilogue of PvN, so you won't have to wait long for the conclusion. 'Til then, check out the forums, drop some feedback, and look forward to next week's update!
2009-04-11 Pirates versus Ninja: Chapter 5 Aaaand here we are, Pirates versus Ninja Chapter 5! Took some time getting here, but here we are. The story finally reaches its climax in this, the ginal chapter (except for the Epilogue). Huge girls and huge writings, and some awesome illustrations. I hope everyone enjoys it! As per usual, give feedback on the Forum
2009-04-04 Rapunzel Hey! This week's story is the first part of "Rapunzel". I know that odd weeks are supposed to be short, entire story posts, but I had completely forgotten the length of this one and thought it was shorter. It's a spoof fairy tail with witches, princes, and of course adorable pregnant girls. Enjoy! Oh, I feel like a total twit for not saying this sooner, but the donation drive is over. Almost as soon as the whole thing kicked off we received a very kind donation that covered the annual fee for the site. So, woo, another year of Bastion Works!
2009-03-28 Pirates versus Ninja: Chapter 4 Ah, the fourth chapter of Pirates versus Ninja. It's about the second longest chapter (I thought it was the longest just now until I ran a word count on the final chapter- it's just a little bit longer) and certainly has one of the longest, possibly the most badly run-on scenes. But it's still lots of fun, and it has a bit of comeuppance for a certain character. Hope you enjoy reading it! Make sure and check in on the forum for comments on the story, writing and art challenges. I'll be posting about the new challenges on Monday- see you then!
2009-03-21 School of Huge, & Donation Drive

Hey, sorry I'm a little late again this week, woke up at ten in the evening! I guess I must be operating on British time or something. But enough of my weak excuses! Story time!

This week's story is called 'School of Huge', and it's a short humorous piece of meta humour about writing and bignesses and whatnot. It was a real blast to write, and I hope it'll be fun to read too.

On another note, I'm running a Donation Drive. As you may or may not have noticed before, there's a Pay Pal Donation button above the newsposts. This is to get money primarily to help with the upkeep of the site. I bring it up now because there's a $55 bill for server maintenance coming up, and it needs paying. What with living in Japan (which insists on being rich while everyone else's economies circles the drain, meaning awful exchange rates) and everything, I'm not exactly cash rich at the moment, so this bill presents something of a problem for me. Thus, donation drive. If I can get some donations towards this it'll really help to keep the site up and running. Thanks!

Writing and art challenges on Monday as always, and more Pirates versus Ninja next week. Look forward to it!

2009-03-17 Families and Heat

Sorry I'm a bit late in updating the site proper, but here's the official word on this week's writing and art challenges.

For writing we have "Write about a pregnant girl with an unconventional family." So, time for some weird mums and dads, or maybe weirder little babies. Or single moms, or adoptive families, or anything you could call a family, so long as it isn't the plain old Nuclear model!

The art challenge's theme is simply "Heat" this week. So, pregnant girls usin' microwaves, or pregnant sun avatars having little baby solar systems? Anything goes so long as it's hot. This may or may not include "hawtness". You'll have to ask Saburo.

Good luck!

2009-03-13 Pirates versus Ninja: Chapter 3

Pirates versus Ninja chapter 3 is up! This puts us at about the half way point in the story, and is one of my personal favourite chapters. If you've liked the whimsical story so far, I think you'll like this chapter too.

We've got both challenges running as usual, and I'll put an update up on Monday with the new ones. If you still want to sneak in challenges for this week, the art challenge theme is Pregnancy and Flight, and the writing challenge is "Write about a pregnant girl at sea!"

Good luck to any challengers!

2009-03-06 Temping Yohohoh. Another short story this week between chapters of PvN. This week it's "Temping", a short I wrote as part of last week's writing challenge. There's a teeny chunk of it on the forum, but now the full version is up. It was a fun little piece to write, and hopefully it'll be a fun little piece to read.

Writing Challenges and Art Challenges are trundling along. I think Saburo's putting a new art challenge up tomorrow, this week's has been themed on pregnancy cravings. A new writing challenge will be up on Monday, this week's is "Write about a pregnant girl going to a theme park". Still enough time for some late entries. Otherwise, look forward to the next ones!

2009-02-28 Pirates versus Ninja: Chapter 2

Aack! Sorry I'm late! My sleep schedule has been a mess all week, and I ended up dozing off before uploading the update. I'm so sorry!

This week's update is the second chapter of Pirates versus Ninja, and it introduces the last main character, who is one of my favourites in the story. Chapter 2 has two gorgeous illustrations by Axel, that I'll be posting up on the forum shortly.

Might be taking a break on Writing Challenges this week due to a bit of a kerfuffle last week. Come by the forum to check. Also Saburo plans to start up Art Challenges tomorrow, so be sure to check in for those too.

'Til next time!

2009-02-23 Writing Challenge EX05 Writing Challenge EX05! I put it up on the forum earlier today but completely forgot to update the site. Sorry, I've had a bit of a hectic weekend which has made it trickier to keep the schedule, but I'll try hard to keep things on track next week.
\n

This week's challenge is "Write about a pregnant girl trying to hide something". As always you can find out more on the forum. Last week's challenge seems to have been a bit of a tricky one for everyone, so if there's demand for a week's delay sort of thing, that might be doable. Post on the forum to tell me what you think.

2009-02-21 Miss Mars 13!

New Miss Mars! Man, it seems like it's been so long since I've been able to say that. This is Episode 13, the last in the first "season" of Miss Mars. It took a lot of effort to write, an that's why it wasn't posted for so long. I hope you all enjoy it.

With this, "season one" of Miss Mars is over, as is our tenure on PG-13. Since the forum here is really getting into gear, we've decided that from now on we'll be posting it here instead of PG-13 (starting with the next chapter). I guess this is the end of an era! However, I look forward to having a great time posting here in future.

Probably everyone's ran off to read Miss Mars by now (don't blame you), but for those of you still about, I have two more things! For one, as usual with Miss Mars, Saburo has uploaded a lot of new Miss Mars art and guest art to the Miss Mars gallery, so go check that out.

The other is Divine Comedy, a story I wrote and posted on PG-13 yonks back. Probably everyone's read it there already, but I still have a bit of a soft spot for it. I didn't want to post it instead of an actual new update, though, so I've been sitting on it. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to post it, so it's up now.

Oh, last but not least, we're thinking of starting art challenges on the forum. If you're an artist drop by and checkout the score here.

That's it for this week, I hope your heads aren't spinning too hard after all that. Next week is the second chapter of Pirates versus Ninja, so look forward to it.

2009-02-16 Writing Challenge EX04 New week, new challenge! Last weeks went very well, so I'm hopeful for this week too. The challenge, which, as always, you can find more information about on the forum, is as follows;

"Write about two pregnant girls; one who hates her condition, and one who loves it."

Good luck, and enjoy!
2009-02-13 Pirates versus Ninja: Chapter 1 So, here we have it... (drum roll please)

The Eternal Struggle, Pirates versus Ninja! ... chapter 1. This is a bit of an old story that, between one thing and another, has never seen the light of day until now. But I'm very glad to finally be posting it. It's a collaboration between myself and Saburo with some great illustrations by Axel Rosered. I'll be posting a chapter every other week for the next month or so, until the whole thing's done. Look forward to it!

As you may know, the writing challenges have now moved to Monday (Sunday night if you're in the States) where I think we're doing better. Still trying to settle into a good rhythm. So, no new challenge today, but look forward to it in a couple days time.

So, until Monday, I'll see everyone on the forums. Make sure to drop in to give your thoughts on PvN!

2009-02-08 Writing Challenge EX03 Hey! As promised, I have posted the latest Writing Challenge on the forum, specifically here. (sorry if those links are busted, updater program is still a bit temperamental.

This week's challenge is "Write about a girl that is too pregnant to do something she usually does." A bit vague, but check out the forum for more details.

Challenges will be posted on Monday (Japan time, Sunday evening US time) from now on.

2009-02-06 Hidden Power Hey! Week 3, and still posting. The novelty of harping on about it will probably wear off soon, but until then it's fun, dammit.

This week's story is Hidden Power, probably my last fan fic ever, and in nice fitting symmetrical sort of way, it's the same subject as my first M fan fic; pokémon. This last fic is a lot less sacred than my first two, and you don't need to have read them to get it.

Next week the first chapter of Pirates versus Ninja will be going up, so check in for that.

I'm not posting a new Writing Challenge today because as of yet we've had only 2 participants this week. The bulk of votes on the forum have been to keep the Challenges on Saturday, but there's no point if people aren't posting before then. I'm planning on posting the next challenge either tomorrow or Monday. There will be a newspost for it, and obviously it'll be posted on the forums.

Speaking of, remember to visit the Forum. Well, that's it 'til the next Challenge, bye for now!

2009-01-30 Technical Support

Week 2 of regular updates! I'm totally sticking to this, for real!

This week's update is the long awaited sequel to Technical Problems, Technical Support. It comes with three awesome illustrations by Saburo X. Sorry to keep everyone waiting for this one for so long. I hope you all like it!

I still haven't fixed the author pages, for which I humbly apologise. I will try to get to work on that this week, now that I have a holiday from University

Once again I invite everyone to come and check out the forums. As you may know, I ran a poll to determine which story we'd be posting this week. The result was actually a draw between Technical Support and Pirates versus Ninja with eight votes each. But I couldn't exactly post half of each, so I flipped a coin and broke the tie. Technical Support won. But! We'll be posting Pirates versus Ninja soon too, so keep an eye out for it.

And last but not least, check out the forums for an update on the Writing Challenges. See you all next week!

2009-01-24 Brodbingnag Hey! Week one of regular updates. Since I just uploaded Buck Hammer in the middle of the week, today's update is a rather shorter story; Brodbingnag. I know I put a poll up for "what to post next" with several tantalising options (none of which were Brodbingnag) but I want to give people a little more time to vote on that, since it could determine the update schedule for the next two months! Anybody interested make sure to get down to the Forum and cast your vote, the topic is in "Bastion Work News".
On the subject of the forum, I have put a link in the sidebar under the gallery's link. I have some other small matters of site maintenance I'm trying to attend to (the author pages in the library for one) but they might take a bit longer.
Once again I invite any who haven't to check out our new Forum. I'm holding the first of the Writing Challenges this week on the forum, so anyone interested in a little fun writing should check it out!
Also, if anyone is having trouble with the RSS feed please give me a shout. I've had one report of it not working, but I don't know what's going wrong there. I'm still a bit puzzled by how formatting works for it, but I'll get the hang of it yet...
See you all next week!
2009-01-20 I'm Back I'm Back, and it looks like I've run out of Gurren Lagann quotes. Drat! First order of business: New Story! I have posted a nice medium length story I wrote a while back called Buck Hammer, Nazi Slammer. Anyone who likes pulp action and big round pregnant girls ought to check it out. Beyond that I should jut tell you all what's going on. I am planning to breath some life into the old site with weekly story updates. Yes, weekly, honest! If I've missed a week, come and remind me! I'm aiming for Saturday most weeks, although obviously it's mid-week this time. You may also notice I've plugged a little Donate button onto the main page. As I explain in the long winded paragraph above it this is to give me a little incentive to write. It's by no means compulsory, and obviously money will be tight all round these days, but it would give me a lot of inspiration. I know a lot of you might be a bit lost since the site died for a while, and if you've been using the RSS feed, you'll need to get the new one for Bastion Works now. I apologise for the inconvenience. Last and far from least, I sort of put together a bit of a forum... it still has a lot of teething and testing to do, and I apologise for how unprofessional it looks, but I've let it lie dormant for far too long! You can all check it out at http://bastionworks.com/forum/. Thanks for reading and look forwards to more updates in the future!
2009-01-10 Testing...? Testing, testing, one two three... Does anyone hear me? Is this working? Oh my, it's been a while since I've updated. I made a system so that I can update the site without having to mess around with HTML files or uploading... but sometimes I completely forget how it works!

So I'm just playing around with the system right now, seeing what things work or don't work.

Consider this a precursor to the possibility of actual updates

2008-09-09 Bastion Works! Spin On! Outside Eden is gone! It's not here any more! But in our hearts, and in several broken links, it continues to live on. Building a site to reach the Heavens! Even if that site falls into disrepair, I can update it, and then it's my victory! Where the hell do you think you are? This is Bastion Works!
2008-04-24 And the Prize for Dumbest Webmaster goes to... (And after several minutes of poking around my computer, I remember that I completely automated the update feature and am wasting my time... smooth) There's a bit of a kerfuffle with Outside Eden's address. You can read this at http://darienshields.deviantart.com/ too, in case this address goes down or whatever. Also sorry if I've rushed the formatting. I buy the webspace for my site, Outside Eden, from a company called GoDaddy.com. Generally they're reasonable, although I have a few gripes usually- hideous UI and a sort of Stan from Monkey Island approach to selling you addons and barnacle scrubbers. But generally, reasonable. So I thought, anyway. There are a few problems here and there. For one thing, owing to the age I was when I bought the space originally, it's in my mother's name, and has my old NTLWorld e-mail address, which no longer exists. This is perhaps why I did not receive any of the e-mails they probably sent urging me to renew the hosting package. Probably. The site is actually bought in two parts; the cheap part and the expensive part. The cheap part is the domain name itself, outsideeden.com. I bought a two year subscription of this in 2006. The expensive part is the space, the hosting and the MySQL databases, where the site itself is actually stored. When I renewed this last year, I apparently set up an automatic renewel with paypal. The point that I'm working my way very slowly towards is this; I did not renew the Domain Name this year. Since the space was on an automatic renewal, I still have that. The domain name has passed through its "grace period" and into a "redemption period", where I can buy it back for a scant eighty dollars. This is a Domain name that cost my nine dollars originally. I refuse to pay eighty dollars for a site I update less than once a month. I'm going to let the redemption period go, see if I can buy it fresh for the usual price after that (unless Kat Eggleston beats me to it). It might still cost eighty dollars then, in which case I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a new address for the site, like, I dunno "outsideedenandalittleotheleft.com". I think the site will stay up during the redemption period, but I'm not sure. There will almost certainly be a brief outage when the redemption period ends. I hasten to remind everyone that the actual content of the site is in no danger- just the address. The Miss Mars gallery comments or Mikipedia will not be wiped due to this. Sorry again everyone. I also apologise for my general withdrawl from the community. I could get into that, but it'd be another Journal's worth. Suffice to say; I'm still around, still writing, just doing it for a smaller audience of friends rather than publicly.
2008-02-16 Miss Mars XI Let's see if I can do this without breaking Darien's site... Miss Mars Episode 11: Jailhouse Rock is now avaiable for reading. Two more episodes left in this season, and this one wraps up the two parter we started last time. Story's up here. As always, art's up in the gallery on this very site both by myself and by some pretty high quality artists. I won't be linking it since if you're reading this from here you can probably find it on your own. Remember, constructive feedback (read: more than a sentence) is really something that we artists and writers thrive on. We do this stuff for free, so our only reward is your kind words. Post it there or note us with it or something, but just give it. It's the fuel that makes the machine go, and the tank runs low far too often. Anyway, that's all for now, so catch you peoples on the flip side.
2008-01-27 Juno Review

So, Hollywood has discovered pregnancy, and I know a lot of our brothers in arms are nuts about it. Personally I kept my hopes firmly in the down position, since generally pregnancy stuff from outside the community goes sour. But someone found a stream of it on Google Video, so I thought I'd take a look at it.

The result? Meh. It has its moments, but not really worth the price of admission. Three stars out of five.

But that's obviously far too blunt, so lets go into the details. In case you don't know, the plot of the movie is that the teenage protagonist, Juno (Ellen Page), finds herself pregnant. And... well, that's just about the long and the short of it, as the story kinda stalls from there on in. Juno ends up in a tangled relationship with the father of her child and the would-be adoptive parents. Development in any department is hindered by Juno's staunch refusal to emote or have appropriate reactions to any of her situations, instead keeping her aloof cynical outlook on the world.

This is my main gripe with the film, actually. If you've seen the ads you've probably picked up on the witty teen banter that colours all exchanges in the film. While this is amusing in doses, it becomes wearing when you realise that the bullk of the cast don't have any other modes or moods. Juno doesn't get anxious or on edge when meeting the couple who want to adopt her baby. Once in the film she cries, but quickly returns to her normal mood. This seems especially inappropriate for a movie dealing with one of the most emotional situations that a human can be in. Perhaps this is because most of the core cast are teen actors without much experience. The adult characters actually have a good range, with Juno's father (J.K. Simmons) and the adoptive father (Jason Bateman) being highlights for me.

EDIT: So my sources inform me Ellen Page (Juno) is actually in her 20s. Well, I guess she didn't spend the extra decade learning how to act better, is all I can say.

DOUBLE EDIT: A much better review told me that the writing is what falls down for all involved.

The film would also be vastly improved if Jennifer Garner completed her transformation into a baby obsessed super villain.

Along with everything else, the film is flooded with annoyingly generic indie music. Every scene transition has another poorly conceived song plugged in (usually something along the lines of "If I were something that loves something else, you'd be the thing I loved.") "sung" by a twelve year old on anti depressants.

Unfortunately there's at least one rather obvious thing that I think would have made the film better in my mind. There are these little "Juno's thought" segments where we get a voice over of what Juno's thinking, often narrating the plot. For instance, near the start she muses on how jocks are actually infatuated with humdrum goth girls who want to teach children when they grow up, complete with her mental image of their perfect girlfriend. However, there are maybe three or four such moments in the entire film, and it seems like an idea that might have been much more prominent at some stage in the writing process, but just got whittled back to an almost non-entity.

Lastly, I suppose I better cover the pregnancy fetish angle. To be honest, you probably know if you're going to like this film for the pregnancy or not already. To put it incredibly crudely, if you saw the trailer and immediately got hard, you'll probably love the film (but I'd advise against seeing it with friends. Or indeed, interacting with people in general). Otherwise, well, yeah, it has a pregnant chick and you get to see her being huge and getting ultrasounds and stuff, but I guess after seeing all the pictures and stories floating around the community that has ceased to be enough to warrant paying £5 for a ticket.

So, overall, I guess I don't know what all the fuss is about. But what do I know, I'm just filling my long harboured lust to write a review of something. Judge for yourselves.

(and before you ask, the link I saw was taken down from google video. Sorry!)

2008-01-15 (N)Etiquette HTML-ised for posting, please ignore tags -Darien 1/15/08 9:47 AM (N)Etiquette:

Argh, so, my content schedule got thrown out the window. I blame you. Yes, you, you unwashed masses. I actually spent a lot of time dithering over whether the system was working (... okay, it wasn't to begin with) because I wasn't sure why nobody was talking back. And then I realise it's just 'cause no one has anything to say. *sigh* Okay. I'll try harder to be more thought provoking this time. I also have a review that I'll try and put up next week, which you might find interesting... but now for something dull but necessary; Etiquette. Of the net kind. ... "Netiquette".

Much like the other topics I've been taking a stab at writing, Etiquette is something that's been on my mind for a while, and more than once I've been tempted to post a little guide to the subject on the site. Before you jump to conclusions, I don't mean simple "please and thankyou"s or always throwing your coat onto mud puddles for ladies to walk over (although you might want to keep these in mind anyway.) What I'm referring to is what some might call "netiquette", although the portmantuea is a little irksome. There are specific rules of etiquette that should be applies to our little corner of the net, for the things we do.

Unfortunately I doubt the people who should read this never will. But for a long time I've been using that sort of reason as an excuse not to write down what ought to be said. So, here we go...

The first thing that you absolutely need to keep in mind when talking to people in the M community, or people you've met through it, is that not everyone shares all the same fetishes. More than once I've been talking to people who have just rung me up, and they'll quite cheerily link up a picture that they quite like, you know, trying to do me a favour. And I look at it and find some bondage that I find just plain creepy. It's forgiveable once or twice, but conversations can go awkward fast this way. It's nice when you want to share pictures of a common fetish as a gift or something to a prospective friend, but please, make sure they are a common fetish first.

The second thing is one that probably applies more to me than anyone else... so apologies for esoteric application. But anyway; try to gauge how people type, and what's suitable. Personally I cannot abide people who type things like "wot r u doin?" It fills me with animalistic rage. I share a friend's viewpoint of "If you can't be bothered to type proper english, I can't be bothered to read it". I'm a little weird like that, though. I myself type with full punctuation all the time, at least as far as I'm able. I don't expect this of my friends- typing full words and suchlike is good enough. So, generally try and talk well to people. If they type simply, like you do, then go for that in the end, but be careful not to offput by starting lower than who you're talking to.

Now, I have another article written up, a real long beast of a piece that I'm trying to whittle down to something sensible, on the subject of requesting. But it bears mentioning here that requesting is where etiquette should come most into the fore. I'm against requesting in general, but not naive enough to think it's going to stop. I would, however, like it if people could conduct themselves in a much more civilised manner. If you want something from someone, it is rude to just note them out of the blue, never having met them, and just dump a great big detailed request on them with phrasing indistinguishable from a command. If you're polite, ask humbly, at the very least you won't offend.

In many ways rule one and two are important here too. You'll make no friends asking artists to draw fetishes they don't have, and speaking dumbly to them will just put them off too.

But perhaps the cardinal rule with requests (other than don't), is not to make it the first action. If you really, genuinely want to get art out of someone, you have a much better chance if you befriend them first. I first approached Axel Rosered under the rather shallow pretense of wanting someone to illustrate my stories. Never really got him to do that, but we became friends in the end, and that was far more rewarding. But if I'd just spammed him with e-mails saying "Hay! Illustrate mai fic!11" I'd probably be blocked from his AIM contact list.

Well, I've managed somehow to shuffle through my last point, although I may have been in danger of contradicting myself somewhere in there. But I think the general point should stand. The key to etiquette is not the rules so much as the ethos behind it. You can follow things to the letter and still be a git, and you can probably break all the rules and somehow come off as an alright guy if your heart is in the right place. As best put by the Wyld Stallyns

2008-01-15 Dead PG-13 Post Day

Just a heads up to everyone, PG-13 is currently offline due to a sort of annual blip that comes up in January. G'Tron expects to have it in hand by the end of the week, though, so just sit tight.

2007-12-17 DariDumb Sorry guys, took a look at some of my coding today and noticed the huge unmistakeable flaws that were busting things up (Stupid Darien. = is not the same as ==!) The login system should work much more smoothly now. There is one thing that's still being a bit of a bother; at present you'll need to reload the righthand frame in order to get the little "post a comment" links after you're logged in. I'm working to fix this, please bear with me. Hopefully that will get some of you commenting now...?
2007-12-10 Pregnant Girls: Not Just for Hotness

So, I've been wondering for the last few days why not a single comment has popped up. But only after like, four days, do I bother to pop my head in and check. Comment page broken. Smooth move, genius. Sorry about that guys, I don't know quite when it broke, but it ought to be working now. Next time if people can e-mail me, it'll help. Now, apologies aside, on to the main event

Today I'd like to try something a little different... most of you are probably here for "the hawt preggos" so this'll bore you rigid... and the rest of you probably know it all already, but I don't think it's ever been said out in public in the community, and I think it ought to be. So, I'm going to try and write some 'articles' every once in a while on Outside Eden... Today's topic is... Pregnant Girls: Not just for Hotness

Everyone visiting this site (barring a few curious souls) is probably a Maieusiophile, and as such thinks there's not much prettier than a young mother-to-be. However, that doesn't mean we're all the same. On a basic level, some people just like the shape of pregnancy and are more into Expansion, others like only small, realistic pregnancies rather than fantastic back-breaking bellies, others still are attracted to birth itself. But the distinction I want to talk about is another, perhaps more important one. It's about just what you're getting out of the fetish...

For some people it's purely sexual.

For others, though... it's more of a "general appeal". (while being sexual at the same time)

Those in the first category probably stopped reading this article when I made it clear there will be no hawt preggos to follow... Sometimes these people seem to be the majority of our community, but I've got no hard figures, so we'll leave that aside. I haven't got a problem with these people and their tastes- we can hardly pick 'em, after all. However, they differ from my own, and as a result we often differ in view, opinion, and behaviour.

I've rather crudely dubbed the two groups "Morgania" (for those who find it purely sexual) and "Peace Main" (for those who find a wider appeal). This is my own geeky little reference to a geeky little manga that probably nobody has read, and it kind of reflects badly upon the "Morgania" since they're not the nicest in that context. But a term's a term and I can't think of anything better. Feel free to make your own alternatives. I know G'Tron will come up with something colourful.

Anyway, it's rather easy to distinguish between the two groups by the sorts of M stuff that they like and produce. Morgania are drawn to overt pictures and the more gratuitous of stories, I find, and often stories that some might dub "One Hand Wonders". Critical standards are less of an issue as well when you only require a certain level of gratification. This reflects in what creative output we get from Morgania, as usually its highly sexualised stuff that some might consider shallow. Not that they have a lot of creative output. I guess that sounds pretty bad, making them sound like distasteful layabouts with no talent, but I don't think Morgania are really trying to hit critical standards... It's not as much of a concern. If any of you consider yourselves Morgania, you know, please stand out and correct me on any erroneous assumptions I've made.

Peace Main, conversely, are almost pedantic in application of pregnancy to anything and everything. Whether its romance, comedy, action or horror, I get a lot more out of it if there's a pregnant girl in there, whether she's loving, cracking jokes, swinging swords or fleeing from sinister forces (well, actually, maybe scrap that last one...) While not quite universal to Peace Main, many of us treat pregnancy as a theme or genre that should not be exempt from critical standards. That is to say, we like pregnancy stuff, and we like good pregnancy stuff.

When the two groups get together, it can result in some pretty unhappy customers. Peace Main artists don't like their works being stripmined, like illustrated stories being torn apart to get at the juicy picture core, while ignoring the actual stories. Conversely, Morgania get annoyed by all the over elaborate character designs, sappy sentimental talk and unnecessarilly convoluted plots getting in the way of some nice round bellies.

What's the solution? Kill all the Morgania! No, just kidding. I don't know what the solution is, I guess maybe that's something for my next article. But I've blabbed on for far too long this time, so I'll leave it at that. Dwell upon it!

2007-12-07 Running out of Gurren Lagann Puns

Okay! Many (At least eight, if my count is right) of you may have already noticed, but Outside Eden now has something of a rudimentary login system. I must ask you all to bear with me here, as the technology involved can get complicated if you're not careful, and I'm creating most of my work from scratch here. However, the first use of these accounts is already setup! Comments should now work on news articles. As I've hopefully intimated before, they will need to be validated at first with new accounts. Once I'm sure you're not a flamer or a spambot I'll validate your account in general and you can comment instantly all the time. Whee! Hopefully it will be ridiculous amounts of fun. Hopefully.

While I understand that people probably won't care much about a post like this saying "Uhhh, you can comment now", I really do urge you all to comment in future. I have extolled the value of feedback before, (most recently on Miss Mars X, to delightful results!), and I shan't talk your ears off about it again. Sufficed to say that it makes all the work of writing, maintaining a site, drawing (for others), etc. etc. all a little more worthwhile. Especially in depth feedback.

Now, I still have a lot of work left to do. I haven't even made a "logout" page, and OE is now in need of an aesthetic overhaul. If you run into any trouble, please please please e-mail me to say. I apologise in advance if I'm a bit short with you.

Oh, one more thing! Two people have IMed me to say "the sidebar is broken". To these people I say "Why are you telling me that the sidebar is broken? Why are you not going back to the route and finding the links that lead to the new more fixed version of the page? Why are you not following the writings of Confucious?". But seriously. Please update your bookmarks to http://outsideeden.com/Main.php (instead of .html) if you are having trouble.

Damn, I should have called the update "How do you like my Mad Trumpet Skills?"

2007-12-01 Even if that Hole becomes my Grave... Miss Mars X! New Miss Mars! New RSS Feed! New... stuuuuff!
We've hit the tenth chapter of Miss Mars. But no time to rest! There's still a lot more story to go, and this isn't even the end of Part 1! So, keep readin', and please give us your thoughts.
Oh, you should all know that the reading/writing forum on PG-13 is now back to a member-only system. I'd usually dress it up and say that this was unavoidable, blah blah blah, but there's one person who's responsible. He goes by several names, Kevin Frotz, animefan (with some numbers at the end), and I call him "Mary Suepreme". He treats the story with no respect, and we can't stand the thought of him reading, so Saburo has restored the reading/writing forum to members only. For normal people it's easy to get an account, just a few like Suepreme get banned. I'm sorry for the inconvenience this causes everyone, but this guy just turns our stomachs...
2007-10-14 To Hell with Gattai!

For once I actually remembered to make one of those updates I promised! Unfortunately one or two things have been a little delayed, so it's not as big an update as I had hoped. However, we do still have two stories with fantastic illustrations to put up; 'Turnabout Mothers', Saburo's Phoenix Wright fan fic, which I will testify had me on the floor laughing, and along with that 'Technical Problems', my first of a pair of short original stories about artificial intelligences (What?! You don't think programs can get pregnant?! Think again!). The second part, Technical Support, will hopefully be up next weekend, but I can't give you any promises on that. Possibly more minor updates throughout the week; I have some content that I need to get permission to post. In the mean time I really hope you enjoy these stories.

2007-10-06 Break Through Apathy, Outside Eden!

After an absence of much, much too long, I finally remembered to do some updating! This weekend we have for you several additions to the library that I've been sitting on for much, much too long! The first, \"Living Forever, Eternal Life\" is a story by my good friend Mirai Gen, an original fantasy that is, in my humble opinion, his best work to date (which makes me a terrible person for not releasing it until now). Also, I myself have written a few new pieces, a pair of what I'd like to call \"Darien Super Esoteric Series\" fan fics. The first, The Maternity of Haruhi Suzumiya, based around the sublime anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and the second, Guilty Gear XX: The Midnight Carnival &Maternity. Both require intimate knowledge of the series involved, so I wouldn't recommend them if you're infamiliar. Hopefully a good laugh for those who know 'em, though! And as for the last update right now, Castlevania: Birth of Sorrow, another fan fic written by myself, and much more my 'usual fair'. Hopefully it'll be accessable to people who aren't familiar with the Castlevania Sorrow series of games. But otherwise, you should be playing those games anyway! They're a lot of fun.

In addition to these stories, the Library is now encoded with SQL. This change could mean a lot in future, but right now it's not that important... but if you notice any bugs, make sure to let me know.

Okay, that's it for now, but I have a few more stories I need to finish coding, which I'll hopefully have up by next weekend. Also, with any luck, there will be new art too! So, keep your eyes peeled for the next update.

Also, 'fore I go, I can't recommend Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann enough. It is the best anime I've ever seen out of Gainax, and it's second in my heart only to One Piece. Definitely worth watching if you all love anime.

2007-09-23 Miss Mars 7-9, and Darien Sucking Somehow updating the Miss Mars site slipped my mind for three whole chapters! Episode 9 is now available here on PG-13. As usual Saburo has uploaded a ton of art to accompany it. We also have a nice collection of quest art this time. We have some wonderfully coloured work of Victoria from Kaileigh Blue as the result of a contest, and also more of Shadow Pencil's awesome linework illustrating a few bits and pieces from episode eight that took his fancy. Enjoy!
2007-04-13 Mothers' Day! Miss Mars Episode 6 and Art Well, seeing as Mother's Day holds particular signifigance to our little corner of the net, we thought it was high time for a big Miss Mars update! Episode 6 is up (more on that in a minute) and Saburo has done a very special big group picture for the occasion. We've also taken this opportunity to catch up with posting guest art in the Miss Mars Gallery (barring one complication). Unfortunately as I was preparing to post Episode 6 on our usual stomping grounds, PG-13, the site went offline. As we can't tell what the problem is and can't contact G'Tron (the webmaster) we've decided to post Episode 6 on Outside Eden in the mean time. It will be taken down from Outside Eden when it goes up on PG-13. PG-13 going down also means that we weren't able to upload a picture of Emi by Xanadar to the gallery, owing to neither myself nor Saburo having a copy to hand when the forum went down. Hopefully all will be well by tommorrow, in the mean time, I hope you enjoy reading the chapter Here. Comments by e-mail are appreciated until PG-13 comes back online. Enjoy!
2007-04-13 PG-13 Back Up PG-13 came back quicker than we had expected, so the chapter went up there after all. I was too tired to correct the OE updates until now, though. So, please read and comment on Episode 6 on PG-13. http://ninpuchan.dreamhost.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=2413&sid=18ce458b80e593d30d67b4795b5663a8 Mothers' Day! 2007-03-28 Miss Mars Art: All Night Craving Saburo put a new picture of Emi up on deviantART; "Yet another cheap plug for Miss Mars. | Well, in reality this is a picture I've had in mind for a while, and it took me nearly forever to find a way to get it done. Drawing characters upside down is hard, because while some stuff I can just flip the paper for, there's other stuff that requires a lot of practice and planning. I'm pretty happy with how it came out, so it was worth the work. | Emi is such a hardcore gamer ^_^."
2007-03-28 A Picture, for Once! Wow! Seems like it's been so long since I had to upload a new picture. *opens up the gallery HTML files* Yowza! It has been a long time! This gallery is made out of cogs and bicycle chains! It desperately needs to be brought into the 21st Century... Well, I guess that's next week's task. Or the week after that. | Anyway, Saburo X told me that someone asked about a picture of May he drew for me a while ago. It was only then that we both realised it'd been gathering dust in a folder instead of being uploaded. So! It's online now, both in the gallery and as an illustration of You Haven't Lived. | I actually have another update in the wings- one that will probably bore all of you to death, but really makes me happy. After my success making the Library into a PHP database, I decided to do the same with updates, and so far it looks like it shouldn't be too difficult- it'll just involve a lot of copying and pasting from one file to another to another (which unfortunately takes time). What does this mean, though? A cleaner main page! More frequent updates, as it'll be easier for me! And very possibly the return of the no-frames version of Outside Eden, as I could update both at once this way. Oh, and it'll make searching updates much easier. Hopefully. Fingers crossed, guys!
2007-03-18 Story Update, and More Minor I finally got around to uploading the new version of Supine Dragon's Yellow Flowers to the Library. This version is at least twice as long as the original, and adds a lot of depth to the plot. Since I was uploading this anyway, I thought I might make some minor tweaks to the site too. I added a link to the RSS Feed to the Frame, which'll hopefully get more of you to subscribe ^_^;. I have also, for the time being, taken down the No-Frames version of Outside Eden. To begin with I thought I could update it just as easily as the regular version, but I kept forgettting and being lazy, until eventually it ended up majorly out of date. Besides, now the Gallery, the Library, and the Miss Mars Microsite all use frames, so there's not much point in having a tiny no-frames version on its own, at the moment. I might put thought to re-introducing it later, because I have some PHP ideas that might help. But for now, this is it.
2007-03-12 Minor Updates This week I've been going through some of the old pages that haven't been updated since launch, trying to update them as necessary. There are a few things that I think I'm going to just delete outright in the near future, and some things that need an overhaul. Right now I've just remade the Staff page (short read), updated Links, removed some un-needed verbage from the contact page, and added some writing resources. Oh, and as far as I can tell, the RSS is working perfectly.
2007-03-07 PHP and RSS I was lazy about changing the update page on this one, so you might have noticed that shortly after the Library was opened, it changed format to PHP (well, parts of it), and more recently it got a bunch of searching and sorting methods to help you find the stories you're after. It's a lot of work for a list of stories you could probably memorise in five minutes, but one day the Library will be full enough for you to get a good mileage out of them!
2007-03-07 Miss Mars Banners Just a second short update for the night; I put up a bunch of Miss Mars banners that Saburo made on the Miss Mars page. If you ever want to link the story, or show your support for one of the characters, this is the way to do it! I also changed the introduction text at the top of the main page. This is probably academic to most, but I felt it had grown out of date and needed something easier to understand and more descriptive of the site's purpose.
